“I always knew that I wanted to help people, but before I became involved with GHEI, I think I had a very naïve notion of what I wanted to do to achieve that goal.”

a SL volunteer in Spring 2006. After spending a week in the village, and seeing everything that GHEI had done for Humjibre, I remember sitting there in awe of Mr. Clement and his leadership. Sometimes now, when I find myself thinking too highly of myself or just being ungrateful or cynical, I think back to that time – and how humble and full my heart felt. That feeling of humbleness brings me back, almost like a slap in the face sometimes (and sometimes I need it!)… and I know that there is still more to do, and there will always be someone whom I need to strive to be like.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering with GHEI? I would most definitely encourage anyone and everyone to volunteer with GHEI! No matter where you are in your life, how old you are, or what your past involvement with NGOs may be, there is always something to learn from an experience like this. The memories and impact volunteering in Humjibre are priceless and will most definitely change your life.

Prospective volunteers should feel free to contact Jasmine directly with any questions at jasminekwon@gmail.com.
