Opportunities Volunteers have been an integral part of GHEI’s work from the very beginning. In the summer of 2003 the first group of volunteers conducted a study on health trends, determinants, and beliefs about community health issues. Since then, over eighty volunteers have dedicated their time, skills, and hearts to enhancing GHEI’s work in Humjibre and the Bibiani District. Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who share a common passion for global health and education work that is localized and effective. Presently GHEI has two main types of volunteer opportunities - Serve and Learn and partnership projects.
Past Volunteers and Achievements GHEI has had the pleasure to work with over eighty diverse volunteers on short-term service projects. The contributions made by Serve and Learn volunteers allow GHEI to continue to improve its programs in Humjibre and the Bibiani District. The projects have helped promote awareness, educate, and create behavioral changes that have improved the lives for the community.
GHEI is proud of the work carried out with the assistance of short-term volunteers. We are equally as proud of the work that our past volunteers continue to do with GHEI, other organizations, and related fields of study and work. As you can see from the table below, our volunteers vary in terms of age, nationality, interests, and experience, but they are joined by a common passion for supporting locally-based development work in rural Ghana. To learn more about some of our past volunteers, see the profiles that highlight just a few of our alumni.
