Computer Center / Due to lack of facilities, students are not taught about computers until they reach senior high school. Even at this late stage, it is taught only theoretically as most schools have no access to computers. Consequently, as proficiency in computing becomes increasingly important, students in rural areas of Ghana are falling further behind. We seek to redress this imbalance by introducing every student at our local middle school to computers through a structured program of lessons and supervised practice sessions.

The computer center moved into an expanded space following the opening of the new library block in 2007 and this has allowed room for ten computers and a whiteboard for instruction. As well as classes for local students, computer training is offered to all community members. Our computer center manager, Douglas Asihene has prepared a range of curricula concentrating on basic mastery of the hardware to specialised courses for students interested in word processing or design. Each class includes eight two-hour classes delivered over two weeks and regular practice sessions.

GHEI Tutoring and Lecture Center, Humjibre, Ghana, Africa

Tutoring Center & Lecture Series / The tutoring center provides an opportunity for all students to learn from our teachers with a focus on middle school subjects. They are held each weekday evening and concentrate on supplementing the curriculum. We work in tandem with local school teachers who help us to identify areas to concentrate on. GHEI also holds career lectures given by role models from the community who have succeeded in their respective fields. We have also facilitated learning sessions for the local cocoa farmers held in the community hall.
