Emily Wei, President

Emily graduated from Harvard University in 2002 with a major in Social Anthropology.  She has worked in South Africa teaching a women's business development class and mentoring boys in a shelter for street children.  She has also worked with disadvantaged populations in Boston , New York City, and Taipei , Taiwan .  Emily lived and worked in Ghana between August 2003 and August 2004, where she was GHEI's co-Project Coordinator and Secretary.  She is a joint Public Policy/Law program at Duke University and University of North Carolina , Chapel Hill .

Diana Rickard, MD, Executive Director

Diana graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 2005. She founded GHEI in 2001, oversaw needs assessment and project planning during 2001-2002, and took a year leave of absence from medical school to oversee GHEI's first year of project implementation in 2003-2004. She has returned for site visits and evaluation each year.  Diana is now a pediatric resident at the University of California , Los Angeles .  She intends to integrate international health into her career in pediatrics and focus on improving child health in Africa .

Carinne Meyer, Director of Development

Carinne is currently working towards a Masters in International Affairs and Masters of Public Health at Columbia University where she is concentrating on political and economic development in Africa. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2003 with a degree in Global Studies and an emphasis on African studies and French language.  After university, she worked for Operation USA doing program development work in Los Angeles and field work in Central and South America and in Sri Lanka after the tsunami.  Carinne lived and worked in Humjibre in March-September, 2005 as GHEI's Reproductive Health Project Manager Intern. 

Brittany Ebendorf, Director of Fundraising and Donor Relations

Brittany is in the class of 2007 at Haverford College with a major in psychology and minors in Economics and Sociology.  She spent her Junior year abroad at Oxford University focusing on development economics and international social sciences.  She has worked with numerous volunteer agencies nationally and internationally that aim to build communities, enrich children's educations, and promote healthy lives.  She began working with GHEI in the summer of 2005 as a short-term volunteer and has returned to Ghana three times since then to lead short-term volunteer groups. She intends to pursue a career in international volunteerism and development post graduation.

Dan Cross-Call, Intern Coordinator

Dan Cross-Call graduated from Dartmouth College in June 2005 with a B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies.  His studies focused on the economic and political factors involved in global environmental issues, with a specific emphasis on developing countries.  As part of this coursework, he spent three months in southern Africa in 2003 studying the environmental issues of that region.  Dan lived and worked in Humjibre from August 2005-March, 2006 as GHEI's Education Project Manager Intern. Dan is interested in a career in energy and environmental policy, possibly with a focus on the interplay of these concerns with development issues.

Janell Alden graduated from Duke University in 2000 with a major in Sociology and a minor in German and Business Administration.  During her first two years of medical school at the University of Maryland , she gave health talks in West Baltimore, coordinated volunteers within the University of Maryland Adolescent Medicine Clinic , and organized free glaucoma screenings.  She then took a leave of absence from school to live and work for eight months as GHEI's Health Project Manager Intern from July, 2005- March, 2006. She will graduate from medical school in 2007 and begin a residency program in Pediatrics.

Gannon Sungar, Treasurer

Gannon graduated from Dartmouth College in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, and then worked in business and technology consulting.  His commitment to GHEI comes from a history of volunteering in the development of youth, in academics, athletics, and life and leadership skills.  Gannon lived and worked in Humjibre in March-September, 2005 as GHEI's Education Project Manager Intern.  He plans to attend medical school in the future.
