Diana Rickard, MD, Executive Director

Diana graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 2005 and completed her residency in Pediatrics at UCLA in 2008.  She founded GHEI in 2001, oversaw needs assessment and project planning during 2001-2002, and took a year leave of absence from medical school to oversee GHEI's first year of project implementation in 2003-2004. .  She has returned for site visits and evaluation each year. .  Diana is now a pediatrician in Los Angeles.

Emily Wei, President

Emily graduated from Harvard University in 2002 with a major in Social Anthropology.   She has worked in various non-profits and non-governmental organizations in South Africa, New York City, Taiwan, and Geneva.   Emily lived and worked in Ghana between August 2003 and August 2004, where she was GHEI's co-Project Coordinator and Secretary.   She is currently pursuing a joint degree in Public Policy from Duke University and law from Fordham University in New York City.

Gannon Sungar, Treasurer

Gannon graduated from Dartmouth College in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology.   After spending two years working in business and technology consulting, he served GHEI as an Education Project Manager, living and working in Humjibre from March to September 2005.   Since returning from Ghana, Gannon has worked as the western treasurer for GHEI.   Gannon currently works in a Sports Medicine Lab at Stanford University.   He is planning on attending medical school in the near future.  His commitment to GHEI comes from a history of volunteering in the development of youth, in academics, athletics, and life and leadership skills.

Ilona Johnston, Human Relations Officer

Ilona graduated with a Master's in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Policy and Management in 2005, having previously gained a BA in Human Sciences at Oxford.  Prior to her Master's she worked on a reproductive health project in rural Tanzania.  She was the Health Programme Coordinator from September 2006 to October 2007.  She is currently working for the International HIV/AIDS Alliance as Programme Officer for North and West Africa. 

Luke Caley, Communications Officer

Luke graduated with a Master's Degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Policy and Management in 2006, having previously gained a BA in English and Politics in Manchester.  During his studies, he also worked full time as a Programme Administrator at the Institute.  Prior to this, he has worked for the British Council, and as an English teacher in Venice, Italy.  For GHEI, he was the Education Programme Coordinator from September 2006 to October 2007.  He is currently the Partnership Development Officer for the British organisation Tools for Self-Reliance.

Rebecca Dudovitz, MD, Physician Recruitment Officer

Rebecca graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles medical school, where she continued as a pediatric resident.  Throughout residency, Rebecca worked with Diana to create a new approach to global health education for pediatric residents emphasizing partnering with communities and the ethics of working abroad.   Selected UCLA pediatric residents now participate in a seminar series and an on-site rotation in Ghana.
