Sarah Puryear
Education Program Coordinator

Sarah graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2007 with a B.S. in Microbiology. In August 2008 she intends to begin medical school with a career goal of Infectious Disease. Additionally she will pursue her Masters in Public Health. Before her time in Ghana, Sarah had substantial traveling experience including, Australia and New Zealand where she studied the continent's unique ecology, Bolivia where she worked with a nephrologist and did Public Health Outreach and Egypt working for the Department of Defense studying typhoid fever. Sarah taught English As A Second Language for the entirety of her college career and developed a real passion for teaching. Additionally, she coached a club soccer team and was on the executive board of University of Georgia's Habitat for Humanity organization. Sarah is originally from Athens, Ga.

Leah Ratner
Health Program Coordinator
September 2007 - June 2008

Leah graduated from The George Washington University in May 2007 with a B.S. in Public Health. She intends to pursue a masters degree in Public Health as well as Medicine. She has lived in both Costa Rica and NorthEast Brasil, however, this is her first time in Africa. During her time in Brasil she did research on Self-Medication in Salvador, Bahia. Domestically, her involvement in Public Health includes research for the regional office of the WHO, advocacy and involvement in several DC clinics for under-served populations as well as leadership on campus in both environmental and social justice student organizations. Leah is originally from State College, PA.
