GHEI strives to encourage and motivate the young women in Humjibre to continue with their education and to set high goals for themselves. While GHEI conducts community programs targeting education needs more broadly, educating females is one of the most successful paths out of poverty.

In many impoverished societies including Humjibre, female education is considered an economic burden. Many families want their female children to help with younger children or farm rather than go to school and oftentimes, young women are forced to forego their educations.

In order to overcome the cultural barriers to female education, girls take priority in all of GHEI's programs. GHEI sets aside additional spaces in its Youth Education, Early Childhood Literacy, and Scholarship Programs for girls. Along with a two week Girls Empowerment Camp, the Tutoring Centre hosts a weekly 'Ladies' Night' where girls are have a comfortable place to study, ask questions, and learn from female GHEI teachers.

Since 2006, GHEI local staff along with a group of summer Serve and Learn volunteers run a two week intensive camp for girls who have just graduated from junior high school. The camp comprises various sessions that not only encourage creativity and self-expression, but also focus on building self-esteem, looking at potential careers, the effects of group influence (relating to drug abuse and sex), teamwork, global perspectives, sexual and reproductive health, and much more.

Every girl deserves an excellent education and the opportunity to succeed. With the generous support of individuals, GHEI has been able to maintain high quality programming for girls.
